Made in Accrington, Lancashire, Billy Bibby moved to the seaside resort of Llandudno, North Wales at the age of eight with his parents and younger brother. He first picked up a guitar shortly thereafter and has been teaching himself and honing his guitar skills ever since.
From his teen years forward, Billy’s existence has been divided between living by the sea in North Wales and gigging extensively throughout the UK and abroad. The combination of life on the road and enjoying a relaxing home base as a haven for songwriting provides a nice pace of living, perfect for creating a whole new batch of songs.
To date, the bulk of Bibby’s music career has been as part of Catfish and the Bottlemen. Billy Bibby was one of the founding members of the band and cut his gigging teeth for seven years up and down the UK, Europe, and in America as lead guitarist and backing vocalist. This voyage started back when he was just 17 and ended when he was 24. One of his greatest achievements to date is the gold disc that he earned for the band’s debut album The Balcony’ – something that Billy is very proud to have been a part of.
At present, Billy’s musical career is taking on a new direction as he seeks to forge his way in the industry as frontman of a project showcasing his own songwriting. Billy Bibby’s expressive voice surprises and delights the listener with its flawless, timeless, and effortless qualities. Possessing powerful, melodic pipes and a set of songs to match, Bibby prides himself on making meaningful, relatable records that resonate with everyday people.
Influences from such greats as Elvis Presley, Noel Gallagher, and Mark Knopfler are prominent, but not defining in his musical approach.
Bibby has recently been on tour trialling new acoustic material, garnering praise and positive feedback thus far. Bolstered by these early successes, Bibby recently auditioned and recruited a backing band to help put some flesh on the bare bones of the acoustic start he’s made. Promotional tracks have already received radio play from Adam Walton on BBC Radio Wales and John Rose on UIC Radio, Chicago. His first full-band single, ‘Waitin’ for You’ was released November 3, 2015 and an EP is forthcoming.
